Twelve-year-old Raylene was last seen at her home on January 5, 1983 in Ruston, Louisiana, lying on the couch after being severely beaten by her father. When her 8-year-old sister came home from school, Raylene was gone.
Raylene's father, Raymond Helsley Jr, says that he left Raylene home for an hour and when he returned, she was gone and thought Raylene ran away. Raymond was charged and convicted with child abuse after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.
Authorities believed that Raylene was murdered by Raymond and her body was buried one in a half miles from his home, but there's not enough evidence to prove that theory.
Raylene was last seen wearing a long-sleeved button-down shirt with purple flowers on it, Levi's jeans and boots. She has a blue-colored pencil mark scar from the base of her nose to her upper lip, and has a heart-shaped birthmark at the base of her skull to the back of her neck.
